Paquin Design Build - 2019 In Review
With the year coming to a close we realize how dynamic 2019 has truly been.
In 2019 Paquin Design Build launched three new divisions to our company: PDB Commercial, Paquin Interiors and Beacon Pointe Homes.
At the beginning of the year, our commercial division, PDB Commercial contracted to build an addition to The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club with deadlines to have the project completed for a few weddings – ALREADY ON THE BOOKS. No pressure! We delivered — just in time for the first bride to walk down the aisle (no joke) and now get to admire our work every time we cross the Bay Bridge.
In early February, we held the grand opening for Paquin Interiors, a kitchen and bath design studio and showroom created to streamline the selections process for our clients and offer a turn-key alternative for home renovation projects. The showroom sits adjacent to our office in Grasonville, MD and specializes in designing and installing new and remodeled kitchens, baths, and other home interior projects. We employ in-house designers for architectural and interior design needs. These designers work with our clients at both Paquin Interiors and Paquin Design Build. The showroom carries four full cabinet lines, countertops, tile, flooring, plumbing and lighting. Come by and see our beautiful showroom when you're in the area.
The third addition to our company was Beacon Pointe Homes, our semi-custom home division. We recently broke ground on our first home in Easton, MD, which is scheduled for a Spring 2020 delivery. Beacon Pointe was also chosen to be one of two builders in the Community of Easton Village in Easton, MD. We will begin construction of our model home in just a few weeks, which is scheduled for a grand opening this coming Spring. These homes will range from 2 – 4 bedrooms and have been designed with large open spaces that deliver an ease of living for today’s busy lifestyles. As the weather starts to warm up, stop in and see us and discover this amazing community with pool, clubhouse, and access to the open waters of the Eastern Shore.
In 2019, Paquin Design Build was fortunate enough to design and build a number of waterfront homes in Talbot, Queen Anne’s and Anne Arundel Counties. Each home was uniquely designed for its owner and we are proud to add these to our Paquin Design Build portfolio.
In addition to our new custom builds, we made a strong return to our roots by taking on more home renovation projects. From sunrooms and porches, to garages and major additions, we were able to complete and deliver a new way of life to many of those choosing to stay in the homes they have loved for years. We embraced unique situations including the renewal of a home destroyed by water, the construction of a large shelter for a Winnebago, and more. The challenges culminated in extreme satisfaction for our clients as the projects came to a close.
Our company had a few proud moments over the course of this year.
First, we learned that Paquin had been chosen as the feature home for the Spring edition of Home and Design, Chesapeake Views Magazine. The 10-page article featured a story of one of our early homes, designed and built in the community of San Domingo Cove in Saint Michaels, MD. We were extremely honored by this opportunity.
Over the Summer, the president of our company, Brent Paquin was invited to speak to a group of over 100 Eastern Shore businessmen and women about building and sustaining a business on the Eastern Shore. His presentation spoke of his journey to success, noted the challenges he faced as a child with dyslexia, how he overcame those challenges, and persevered to establish Paquin Design Build and its various division companies. He stressed the importance of creating solid business partnerships, which would support a business through good years but most importantly in those years that aren’t as strong.
In addition, Paquin Design Build was proud to receive the Maryland Department of Commerce, Secretary’s Citation Award, for recognition of fifteen years of business on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
We have always been fortunate to have a strong core team. This year, life delivered a few changes to our group and we had to say goodbye to some treasured employees. We were lucky enough to fill their vacancies with individuals we have grown to love and who really enhance our talented team. If you haven’t met them, come by the office and say hello to Dave Foster, Grinner Alvarenga and Julia Bollinger — or drop by the showroom and see Cathy Derr, and Eric Durkee who will help you with all of your renovations. In the field you may run into our new carpenters, Bo Casper, James Stack and Robbie Meiklejohn, all tradesmen in the business for many years. Each of these talented individuals bring their unique experiences and expertise to our team, to ultimately deliver a better product to our clients.
As we move into 2020, our plan is to continue to seek out new ways to streamline our day-to-day business, allowing us to do what we do with more accuracy and efficiency. Technology has opened the door for us to integrate CoConstruct software into our day-to-day business, which tracks a project from the initial meeting through the projects warranty. This software program creates transparency in the building process, and ensures a project with less communication gaps and a smoother process along the way. We will continue to research and add processes that better our business and ultimately save our clients time and money.
We're looking forward to a very busy Winter season, preparing for the onset of Spring building, and Beacon Pointe’s Grand Premier at Easton Village. We are so thankful for the successful year we have had, and the promising new year to come. What we cherish the most are the relationships that we make with our clients and all those we work with every day. Nothing makes us happier than helping other businesses grow alongside our own, and ultimately creating healthy, happy working relationships with our clients.
We would like to sincerely wish all of you a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We hope that you enjoy your holiday celebrations. Cheers!
